Overview

Kajeet and Texas A&M University Technology Services (TAMU TS) set up a proof-of-concept private LTE network on the university's Educational Broadband Service (EBS) 2.5 GHz band 41 license so that handheld scanners could process parking payments, Kajeet announced on July 23, 2024.[1] Before the pilot, TAMU TS set up and removed temporary Wi-Fi hotspots for automated parking management, which Kajeet says took significant labor.[1] Kajeet says the network ran the parking payment scanners at George Strait's concert at Kyle Field, which Texas A&M reported drew 110,905 fans on June 15, 2024, a U.S. record for a ticketed concert.[2][3]

At a glance

Organization

Location
Texas A&M University campus, including parking for events at Kyle Field.[2][3]
Date reported
July 23, 2024.[1] The pilot's start date is not publicly stated.
Spectrum
Licensed EBS spectrum at 2.5 GHz (LTE band 41), under the university's own license.[1]
Technology
Private LTE.[1]
Scale as reported
Not publicly stated. Kajeet describes a proof-of-concept pilot with radio access network equipment but gives no counts of radios or scanners.[1]
Vendors and roles
Kajeet: worked with TAMU TS to deploy radio access network equipment on the university's license.[1] The radio equipment maker is not named.
Status
Described as a proof-of-concept pilot in July 2024.[1] On September 1, 2026, Kajeet announced that Heddian would take over its private wireless deployment business, including support for existing customers;[4] whether this pilot continues is not publicly stated.

How the network is used

  • Automated parking payments processed by handheld scanners over the private cellular network.[1]
  • Replacing temporary Wi-Fi hotspots that TAMU TS had to set up and remove for parking operations.[1]
  • Parking payments during large events, including the June 2024 George Strait concert at Kyle Field.[2]

Reported results

As reported by the sources below; not independently verified.

  • Kajeet says the approach stabilized the payment system and improved operational efficiency, especially when commercial cellular networks were congested. This is a vendor claim with no published figures.[1]
  • Kajeet's CEO called the George Strait concert a significant validation of the network's ability to handle high-volume events.[1]
