Overview

Amarisoft's 4G 5G Core, documented as LTEMME (LTE and NR Core Network), is a compact core network that puts the 4G EPC (Evolved Packet Core) functions and, depending on the license, the 5G core functions in a single software package for Linux.[1][2] Amarisoft licenses it to infrastructure partners, which use it in private network projects and, in some cases, run it on a small cell to make a network-in-a-box.[1] Amarisoft's own documentation also describes pairing it with Amarisoft's base station software to build a configurable LTE test network; support terms for production private networks are not publicly stated.[2]

Specifications

Architecture

Core type
4G EPC and 5G core in one product, compliant with 3GPP Release 18 for both LTE and NR, according to Amarisoft.[1]
4G functions
MME (mobility management entity), SGW and PGW (serving and packet data network gateways), HSS (home subscriber server), ePDG (evolved packet data gateway), PCRF (policy and charging rules function) and EIR (equipment identity register), all in one software component.[1]
5G functions
AMF (access and mobility management function), AUSF (authentication server function), SMF (session management function), UPF (user plane function), UDM (unified data management) and 5G-EIR in one software component; the 5G core is included depending on the software license.[1][2]
Radio access
Connects to multiple eNodeBs over S1 and to gNodeBs, ng-eNodeBs or N3IWFs over the NG interface; supported access types are LTE, NB-IoT, NR and non-3GPP access through an N3IWF (non-3GPP interworking function).[1]
Radio vendor compatibility
Uses standard 3GPP S1 and NG interfaces; a list of tested third-party radios is not publicly stated.[1]

Deployment options

Platforms
Runs on standard Linux distributions on x86 or ARM general-purpose computers.[3]
Hardware requirements
Can run on the same PC as Amarisoft's eNodeB/gNodeB software for a compact setup, or on any reasonably recent PC with at least one Gigabit Ethernet port; a 64-bit Linux distribution is required, with Fedora as the officially supported distribution.[2]
Partner platforms
In July 2024 Kontron said Amarisoft's core and RAN software had been integrated on its rugged ME1310 edge platform for private 5G in defense and security.[4]

Redundancy and multi-site

Capacity (as stated)

Subscribers and sessions
Not publicly stated for the core alone. Kontron's 2024 announcement says the combined Amarisoft core and RAN on its ME1310 platform supports more than 1,000 active devices.[4]

Throughput

Features and interfaces

Session types
IPv4, IPv4v6, IPv6, non-IP and Ethernet PDN connections and PDU sessions.[1]
Quality of service and slicing
All LTE QCIs and NR 5QIs, traffic flow templates and dedicated bearers; network slicing in the 5G core.[1]
SIM authentication
XOR, Milenage and TUAK algorithms, plus 5G AKA, EAP-AKA' and EAP-TLS in the 5G core.[1]
External network functions
Optional interfaces to an external HSS (S6a), EIR, VLR/MSC, IMS servers (Rx and N5), UDM and AUSF, a cell broadcast center and location servers.[1][2]
IoT features
NB-IoT, cellular IoT optimizations, non-IP data delivery, PSM and eDRX power saving, and RedCap device support.[1]
Public warning
Can send ETWS/CMAS public warning messages.[2]

Management

Subscriber management
Built-in user database, so no external HSS is needed.[2]
Interfaces
Configuration files in a JSON-based format, a remote API over WebSocket and a command-line monitor.[2]
Not publicly stated
Graphical management system

Licensing

License model
Binary software licenses, named 4G CORE and 4G 5G CORE in Amarisoft's license table; source code is supplied only to a very small number of partners.[1]
Updates
Amarisoft says software updates include new features at no additional cost.[3]
Sales channel
Through Amarisoft's infrastructure partners; Amarisoft lists no U.S. office.[1][5]
