Overview

Highway 9 Mobile Cloud is Highway 9 Networks' private 5G/LTE platform. Its core is split in two: Mobile Center, cloud-hosted core network functions that provide the control plane, policy, authentication, subscriber and SIM management, and Mobile Edge, a packet core that runs on premises as a virtual machine or a Highway 9 appliance, or in a public cloud, and terminates device traffic locally.[1][2][3] The radio network can be supplied by the enterprise or bought from Highway 9, and Highway 9 says the platform integrates with third-party RAN (radio access network) equipment.[1] Highway 9 says the Mobile Edge keeps the network running during temporary disruptions to the cloud services, and it also uses the platform for neutral-host networks that carry mobile operators' subscribers.[2][4]

Specifications

Architecture

Components
Mobile Center (cloud-hosted 5G/LTE core functions, policy and authentication servers, management), Mobile Edge (local packet core handling traffic forwarding, security enforcement and protocol translation) and Mobile Network (the RAN).[2]
Core type
Virtualized 5G core with distributed, scale-out 5G/LTE packet cores, according to Highway 9; it lists both 4G and 5G radios.[1][3]
Radio compatibility
Integration and telemetry with third-party RAN; Highway 9 also sells its own indoor and outdoor 5G access points that integrate with Mobile Edge.[1][5]
Carrier interworking
Carrier extension (CX) services for in-building coverage and a multi-operator core network (MOCN) gateway mode on the Mobile Edge Appliance, used for neutral-host networks.[1][6][4]

Deployment options

Models
Fully cloud-hosted, with only small cell radios on site, or hybrid, with Mobile Edge appliances on premises and the mobile services in the cloud.[2]
Mobile Edge placement
As a virtual machine or appliance, on premises or in AWS (Amazon Web Services) or Google Cloud; Highway 9 says AWS customers can run it in AWS regions, Local Zones and Outposts.[3][7]
Mobile Center hosting
Typically in a public cloud such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud, or in a private cloud in the enterprise's own data center or a colocation facility.[2]
Resilience
Highway 9 says the Mobile Edge continues network operations during temporary loss of the cloud-hosted services.[2]

Mobile Edge Appliance (as stated by Highway 9)

Form factor
1U shallow-depth rack mount with redundant, hot-swappable power supplies.[6]
Processors
Two 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors, up to 38 cores each.[6]
Networking
Up to four 25GbE SFP28 ports (Intel E810) and a dedicated BMC (baseboard management controller) port.[6]
Security
TPM 2.0, secure boot and a hardware root of trust.[6]
Operating temperature
10°C to 35°C (50°F to 95°F).[6]
Compliance
FCC, CE and RoHS.[6]

Features and interfaces

Enterprise integration
SAML-based single sign-on with identity providers such as Okta, RADIUS and 802.1X, existing firewalls, network access control, Azure AD and MDM (mobile device management) for eSIM control.[2][1]
Virtual Mobile Zones
Group-based policy that extends virtual LANs (VLANs), DNS and DHCP services, security policy and QoS (quality of service) to device groups wherever they connect.[3]
SIMs
Physical SIMs or eSIMs.[3]
APIs
Mobile services are available through a secured API (application programming interface).[3]
AI features
AI assistants for connectivity, coverage and capacity troubleshooting; in March 2026 Highway 9 and SynaXG announced a joint GPU-accelerated AI-RAN system built on NVIDIA AI Aerial.[3][8]

Management

Operations
Single cloud console for radios, capacity and traffic; Highway 9 says it manages and maintains the cloud-hosted Mobile Center and delivers updates automatically.[1][2]

Licensing

Commercial model
Offered as a service; Highway 9 is listed as an AWS Marketplace partner and says the platform can be bought through Google Cloud Marketplace.[9][7]
