Overview

The CBRS Spectrum Controller is Federated Wireless's service for the 3.5 GHz CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) band: a Spectrum Access System (SAS) plus analytics, lifecycle tools, AI-based interference analysis and multi-vendor integration.[1] Every CBRS radio (CBSD) must register with and be authorized by an FCC-certified SAS before it transmits, so a private CBRS network needs a SAS service such as this one.[2] The FCC certified Federated Wireless as a SAS administrator for full commercial deployment on January 27, 2020 and renewed that certification on February 13, 2025 through January 27, 2030.[3][4] For background on the remaining SAS options, including Google's exit, see our guide to CBRS SAS administrators.

Specifications

What the service covers

Core service
High-availability SAS that assigns CBRS channels and power to registered radios.[1]
Modules
Spectrum Assignment Manager, OEM integration analytics and APIs, SpectrumMAX AI intelligence, spectrum lifecycle tools, regulatory case management, and a multi-band spectrum and interference manager.[1]
Lifecycle tools
Site qualification (availability, interference, capacity), OEM-specific radio configuration, and ongoing optimization including interference monitoring and channel reassignment.[1]
Regulatory support
Federated says its regulatory case management module handles certification testing, waiver processes, interference and incident response, and synchronizes assignments across SAS vendors.[1]
Multi-band
Combined 6 GHz and CBRS spectrum management for multi-band deployments.[1]
Premium tier
Premium Enterprise Grade Spectrum (PEGS) service with enhanced support; its terms are not published on the page.[1]

Coverage and sensing

Geography
Full 150 MHz of CBRS in the contiguous U.S., Hawaii, Guam, Alaska and Puerto Rico.[1]
Environmental Sensing Capability (ESC)
Federated says it runs a triple-redundant nationwide ESC sensor network.[1]

Availability and scale (as stated by Federated Wireless)

Service levels
24x7x365 network operations center support with five-nines (99.999%) service SLAs.[1]
Spectrum availability claim
Federated says it delivers 100% spectrum availability to 3.5 GHz CBRS networks, based on data from more than 250,000 CBSDs.[1]
Radio vendors
The page shows logos for Nokia, Samsung, Cambium, Airspan, Celona, JMA Wireless, Tarana, Blinq and Telrad among its OEM partners; a full interoperability list is not published there.[1]

Certification and status

FCC SAS certification
Certified for full commercial deployment on January 27, 2020 (DA 20-110) for a five-year term.[3]
Renewal
Renewed on February 13, 2025 (DA 25-131); authorized to provide commercial service until January 27, 2030.[4]
Market context
The FCC said in March 2026 that six SAS administrators still operate.[5] Google Cloud stopped taking new SAS customers on June 10, 2026 and will shut its SAS down on June 10, 2027, so its customers must move to another SAS; Federated's page includes a CBRS migration contact section.[6][1]
