Overview

Samsung Compact Core is Samsung's network-in-a-box core for private networks, scaled down from its operator (macro) core.[1][2] It is a common 4G/5G core that can run as a 4G EPC, 5G non-standalone (NSA) or 5G standalone (SA) core, so Samsung says a network can move between them without replacing hardware.[1] It can be deployed fully on the enterprise's premises, with only the user plane on premises, or as a logically isolated network in a mobile operator's data center.[1][2] Samsung's January 2021 white paper says the LTE version was deployed commercially in Korean railway networks and points to CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) in the U.S. and Local 5G in Japan as 5G opportunities.[2]

Enterprise features listed
Cellular IoT, time-sensitive networking (TSN) integration, and non-public network discovery and selection.[2]

Deployment options

Full on-premises
All network functions in the customer's data center; Samsung says core functions are integrated into a single server.[2]
User plane on premises
Only the user plane (and optionally the CU) on site, with control functions in the operator's data center.[1][2]
Operator-hosted
Logically isolated private network in a mobile operator's data center, offered as a subscription-style service.[1][2]
