Overview

Celona EdgeOS is the network operating system of Celona's enterprise wireless platform, now sold as Celona Orion. It contains Celona's converged 4G/5G packet core, routes wireless devices into the enterprise LAN, authenticates devices by SIM on both private 5G and Wi-Fi, enforces per-application quality of service and manages CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) spectrum.[1][2] Celona runs the same software three ways: on a Celona Edge appliance on site, as a virtual machine on VMware ESXi, or cloud-delivered with AerFlex, where control runs in Celona's cloud and user traffic breaks out locally at each access point.[1][3] Celona says it writes the whole software stack in-house, including the core, the private 5G and Wi-Fi access layers and the SIM, managed by its cloud-hosted Orchestrator AI; earlier Celona documents call the software Celona Edge or CelonaOS.[1][4][5]

Specifications

Core functions

Packet core
Cloud-native, microservices-based 4G/5G packet core with EPC (Evolved Packet Core) and 5G standalone services on one shared data plane; Celona says this eases migration from 4G to 5G.[1][2]
Subscriber authentication
Authentication is handled by a database built into Celona Edge, so Celona says no external AAA (authentication, authorization and accounting) server is needed.[6]
Wi-Fi convergence
Wi-Fi is attached to the same core as trusted access: one SIM or eSIM authenticates on both private 5G and Wi-Fi using EAP-AKA′, and Celona describes the core as ready for ATSSS (access traffic steering, switching and splitting).[2]
Third-party radios
Not publicly stated; Celona documents EdgeOS with its own access points.

Routing, policy and local breakout

Enterprise routing
A full IP stack at the edge with NAT, VLAN forwarding and Supernetting (routing to devices behind cellular gateways), which Celona says gives IT device-level visibility instead of a hidden cellular subnet.[2]
Advanced networking
Templates per Edge cluster add Layer 2 GRE or VXLAN tunnels, bridging and IP multicast for chosen device groups, on Edge software release 2305 or later.[7]
Local breakout
With an on-site Celona Edge, the appliance is the data plane for the private network; with AerFlex, control stays in the cloud and data breaks out locally at the access point.[4][3]
Quality of service
MicroSlicing assigns per-device, per-application QoS classes (QCI/5QI) and maps them to Wi-Fi WMM and enterprise Layer 2/Layer 3 QoS.[2]
Security integration
Micro-segmentation for IT/OT separation and integration with existing firewalls and zero-trust network access (ZTNA) systems.[1]

Spectrum and SIMs

Spectrum management
Intelligent spectrum management uses real-time telemetry and SAS (Spectrum Access System) feedback for zero-touch planning and self-optimization across shared, unlicensed and licensed bands, with domain proxy support for CBRS.[1][2]
SIMs and eSIMs
Celona physical SIMs and eSIMs, with eSIM activation by QR code, bulk CSV import or MDM tools such as Jamf, AirWatch and Intune, and SIM lifecycle management in Orchestrator AI.[6]

Deployment options

Appliance
Pre-packaged on-premises appliance, which Celona recommends for large, mobility-heavy sites such as plants, refineries and hospitals.[1]
Virtualized
Celona's September 2025 guide says Edge software, until then deployed on dedicated Celona appliances, can run on VMware ESXi; each VM needs 8 CPUs, 48 GB of memory, 1 TB of storage and a NIC supporting ixgbe or i40e virtual-function drivers.[8]
AerFlex (cloud-delivered)
Access-point-only sites with no on-site server, launched August 6, 2025.[5][1]
High availability
Clusters of two or more nodes with load balancing and automated failure detection and recovery.[1]

Appliance hardware (2025 data sheet)

Platform
Intel x86 appliances using Intel DPDK, provisioned remotely through Celona Orchestrator.[4]
Express Node (CN-EDGE-EXP)
9.8-inch-deep mini 1U chassis, two 1G and two 10G Base-T ports, single 200 W power supply, 0 to 40 °C; up to 40 access points, or up to 80 in a three-node Express Cluster.[4]
Enterprise Node (CN-EDGE-ENT)
1U rackmount, nine 1G and two 10G Base-T ports plus two 10G SFP+ ports, single 500 W power supply, 0 to 45 °C; up to 100 access points, or 200 in a three-node cluster (CN-EDGE-ENTCLUSTER).[4]
Enterprise V2 Node (CN-EDGE-ENT-V2)
Adds 10/25G SFP+ ports and dual hot-swappable redundant power supplies; up to 100 access points, or 200 in a three-node cluster (CN-EDGE-ENT-V2-CLUSTER). Enterprise and Enterprise V2 nodes cannot be mixed in one cluster.[4]

Commercial terms

How it is sold
Core software is part of the Celona Orion subscription, which Celona prices per access point; Celona Edge appliances are listed among one-time accessory purchases, and AerFlex is an add-on subscription.[9]
Earlier 5G LAN subscription
Celona's 2024 product guide described 3- and 5-year SaaS subscriptions that included Celona Edge software, with the Edge appliance bought separately.[10]

Public pricing

  • No list price is published. As of October 1, 2026, Celona's pricing page says the Orion subscription is priced per access point and includes core software with future upgrades, while Celona Edge appliances are listed among one-time accessory purchases.[9]
